Partridge Rock

Plymouth Rocks were developed from a cross of Dominique males and either Black Java or Black Cochin females. The original Plymouth Rock had a barred plumage pattern and was considered the most popular breed in the United States in the early 20th Century, used for both meat and brown egg production. Partridge Plymouth Rocks were developed using Partridge Cochins, Dark Cornish, Brown Leghorns and Golden Laced Wyandottes along with the original Barred Plymouth Rock. Partridge Plymouth Rock chicks are light brown with the head and body being much darker. They have single combs and clean, brown and yellow legs and feet. Adult males have a red head and greenish black hackle and saddle feathers that are laced with red. The wing fronts, breast, body and main tail feathers are black while the wing bows and back are red. The coverts are greenish black, forming a wing bar when folded. Adult females have red heads, and the body, back and breast plumage is reddish bay penciled with black.
